Breastfeeding Mamas ROC!

Breastfeeding mamas* in Rochester, NY, need low-key time to connect with other nursing parents for socializing, support, and problem-solving. That’s why we’re happy to offer mothers Breastfeeding Mamas ROC, a support group with three components: a Facebook group for easy interaction, an in-person group that meets weekly, and a working moms’ group that meets biweekly on Saturdays.

 Breastfeeding Mamas ROC is a judgment-free zone of support for anyone who is doing any amount of breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or pumping. It does not have to be exclusive. Third trimester pregnant women and women in the process of inducing lactation for adoption, surrogacy, or co-nursing are also welcome to join us!

General Gatherings:

Fridays at 10 a.m. (except federal and state holidays), in Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts

This group is for parents who are exclusively breastfeeding, exclusively pumping, or breastfeeding with supplementation.

Mamas–and their babies–are welcome to come as they are:

  • freshly washed, recently washed, or currently covered in spit-up;
  • wearing a black tie gown or a nightgown;
  • well-rested (ha!), doing okay, or very tired;
  • happy or grumpy;
  • early, on time, or running a bit late.

In other words, it’s a supportive group for mamas and babies as they are in the months after birth or adoption. If you need to bring an older sibling, as well, please bring toys to occupy the older child.

The meeting includes the chance to check your baby’s weight gain in the Nourish office on a neonatal scale.

If you want updates about the meetings (such as rare cancellations), email sally@nourishbreastfeeding.com with your name, phone number, and the age of your baby/ies.

Working Mamas Group:

Alternating Saturdays, 10-11:30 a.m., 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. If you are uncertain about the dates, just call or email.

This biweekly group is for mothers who are working while continuing to breastfeed, whether the breastfeeding is exclusive or not. Mamas who combine working and breastfeeding need encouragement, ideas, and social time with like-minded mamas, and that’s what this group offers. The group is primarily aimed at mothers in the first 18 months of babies’ lives, though mothers whose breastfeeding kids are older are also welcome to come give and get advice.

The meeting includes the chance to check your baby’s weight gain in the Nourish office on a neonatal scale.

If you want updates about the meetings (such as rare cancellations), email sally@nourishbreastfeeding.com with your name, phone number, and the age of your baby/ies.

*Yes, we use the gendered term ‘mamas.’ We find it important to honor a powerful role women have traditionally held and still primarily do. But if you don’t identify as a ‘mama’ and you’re nursing your baby in some way or other, you are absolutely still welcome to join us.
